Who is J. Elaine ?
To answer the frequently asked question, 'Where y'all from?', J. Elaine was born in Burlington, Ontario, Canada. At age 9, she felt the first adrenaline rush of "getting a laugh" on stage at a performing arts camp, and from that moment on, J. Elaine's mission has been to incorporate laughter into everything she did, be it in her dance competitions, in french class or even as the Student Council President of her High School.
J. Elaine moved to New York City, pounded the pavement and graduated from The American Musical and Dramatic Academy as a true quadruple threat; singer, dancer, actor, comedian. At the time of graduation, J. Elaine was offered The National Tour of A Chorus Line. She would revisit that iconic show 3 more times in different stages of her career, always playing "Connie Wong, it's always been Connie Wong", under the direction of the one and only Baayork Lee.
J. Elaine made her Broadway debut in 1999 in Miss Saigon and continued to work on Broadway in the revivals of Flower Drum Song with Lea Salonga, Wonderful Town with Brooke Shields, Sweet Charity with Christina Applegate, A Chorus Line with Mario Lopez, and as "Lily St. Regis" opposite Jane Lynch in Annie. J.Elaine originated roles in The Wedding Singer as Imelda Marcos, and as scene stealer "Cynthia" in Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Yes, she was that gal with the iconic ping pong number. It should be noted that J. Elaine has had the opportunity to shoot ping pong balls into the audience in two different Broadway shows, without the use of a paddle.
In 2008, after an ACL knee injury, J. Elaine chasséd away from musicals to pursue comedy in film and television. J. Elaine made her feature film debut in Morning Glory opposite Rachel McAdams playing "Lisa Bartlett" and continued to appear on the big screen in St. Vincent with Bill Murray, Before I Disappear, and in the critically acclaimed documentary Every Little Step, which chronicles the emotional audition process for the Broadway Revival of A Chorus Line. She has worked on Helpsters, 2 Broke Girls, Grace and Frankie, 30 Rock, and Law & Order: SVU. She was also Alexi Darling in Rent:Live.
As a comedian now living in LA, J. Elaine writes and produces her own comedy Blog Motivational Mondays with "V" on her YouTube Channel as well as continuing to produce her own brand of comedy which incorporates everything a Broadway gypsy does well; singing, dancing, acting, and anything else to get a laugh.
